Mastering The Swim Waves
Do you feel like your child isn’t progressing as quickly as you’d hoped in their swimming lessons? Maybe their friends have moved up a wave, and they’re feeling left behind? It’s a common concern for parents, but the good news is there are plenty of ways you can support your child’s swimming journey outside of lessons.
First, remember that every child progresses at their own pace, and pushing them through the waves too quickly can lead to frustration later when they’re asked to work on skills they’re not yet confident in. If you’re worried about your child’s progress, the best thing you can do is spend more time in the water outside of lessons. Regular swimming sessions, where they can practice in a relaxed, fun environment, will help reinforce the skills they’re learning in class.
If you need specific guidance on what your child should be working on, don’t hesitate to reach out. While teachers may not always have time to chat in detail between lessons, I’m happy to offer free email advice. If your child is in one of my group lessons, simply ask at reception, and I will pass on feedback. Even if I’m not your child’s teacher, I am happy to help with tips and suggestions for your child’s specific needs—whether it’s mastering a tricky stroke or building confidence in the water.

Living in Llangollen, just outside Wrexham, North Wales, I’m a proud mum of four and wife to a very patient husband! After severing my ACL during a roller derby match, I discovered my passion for “pre-hab” to help prevent injuries. In 2017, while pregnant with my fourth child, I weighed 19 stone and experienced the challenges of weight gain many of us face. Running became my outlet, not just for physical health but mental clarity, sparking a love for endurance sports.
Now, as a Triathlon Coach, Biomechanics Coach, and Run Leader, I’m dedicated to helping athletes stay strong and injury-free. With my degree in Sports Injury Rehabilitation, I’ll soon be offering massage, dry needling, and acupuncture to help you return to sport stronger than ever.

My personal experience is that i’ve never been a “racer” and my focus has always been on completing the event rather than placing on a podium. My journey has been one of massive weight loss and starting a new sport that I naturally wasn’t particularly very good at! Except cycling, in fairness my one and only cycle race I finished in 3rd place.
My motto is to be better today than I was tomorrow, growing and challenging myself. It’s not about where I’ve been and what I was, it’s about who I am today and who I will one day become. We are all on different journeys which is what I love about coaching, every athlete has a different history, different strengths and weaknesses, different insecurities, ambitions and also they react physically and psychologically differently to various training techniques.
My goal as a coach is to create a training plan that helps athletes achieve their goals but is enjoyable and makes their hearts sing. If you love your training then you’ll smash every session!
